This 12h course, accredited by NHS Health Scotland, aims to give participants the tools to help support mental health and support others in crisis. It can be presented as two full days, four half days or six two-hour sessions and includes a 160 Page A4 colour manual, Steps for Stress Booklet and CD and a Certificate. Why train in SMHFA?
The course does not train people to be mental health workers nor is it designed as therapy. It offers basic general information about mental health problems, such as common medical terms, as well as exploring recovery. The knowledge presented, and understanding developed in the course, helps to remove stigma and to give confidence in approaching a person in distress. Mental health first aid has been rigorously evaluated in Scotland. Participants reported a range of benefits to their own and others mental health. What does the course cover?
