Creating Hope Together – has been launched by the Scottish Government and COSLA

The strategy recognises that much has been achieved in Scotland on suicide prevention, at a national and local level, including the social movement and its fantastic campaign work.

The new Action Plan commits to:

  • Growing the social movement by encouraging people in communities and organisations – across all sectors – to join the movement and participate.
  • Continuing to run suicide prevention campaigns, at whole population level and targeting specific groups where there is a higher risk of suicide.

The Scottish Government will fund the Scottish Recovery Network to boost community peer-support groups to allow people to discuss their feelings. Last year, the movement identified peer to peer support as one action to prevent suicide. This year the movement have been working closely with Scottish Recovery Network and the National Suicide Prevention Leadership Group’s Lived Experience Panel on a joint project.

You can help too

The United To Prevent Suicide team is calling on the social movement to take steps, no matter how big or small, to provide hope and support to those who are struggling.

The movement aims to get people talking, and listening, about suicidal thoughts to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help.

Suicide prevention cards have been created aimed at helping people start difficult conversations. Each pack consists of 12 colourful cards with three sets of four questions, to allow you to keep some for yourself and share with others.
