EVENT: ‘LAND – Signals to the World’ Comes to Buckie!

MWH Admin TeamEvent

You’re invited to join in the celebration of tall ship ‘The Lady of Avenel’s’ arrival in Buckie by getting involved with designing and/or making environmental signalling flags.

Flags are a traditional way of signalling at sea and the LAND project has been working to create new maritime flags that are intended to send environmental messages from coastal communities to the world!

There are different ways to get involved.

We would love for school pupils or community groups to each design a flag and then send it to us to be included in the growing archive collection that captures current feeling about the environment and climate change. You will find all the information and a downloadable design pack here

Your designs matter, so please share/return your completed Flag Worksheets to us. You can photograph the sheets and then email these to us at info@ecoartcharity.org

There’ll also be Flag Design and Making Public Workshop on Sunday 25th September at the Fisherman’s Hall, Buckie from 2pm-4pm. This fun free event is suitable for family so come along and design and paint a fabric flag. These flags will be joined together bunting style and will decorate tall ship ‘The Lady of Avenel’ in Buckie Harbour. The workshop is drop in but come early to have time to complete your flag.

One lucky flag maker will win a ticket for two people for a trip on the ship on Thursday September 29th!

And if your school or community group would like to make a large fabric flag (1m x 1.5m) that will be flown on the rigging of the tall ship, please e mail Jo: jo@ecoartcharity.org and we will contact you to discuss how we can help you with this.

All the flags will fly over the coming years on tall ships and at other venues around the country and further afield. When flown together, they create a stunning display. At Buckie you’ll be able to visit tall ship ‘The Lady of Avenel’ and see all the flags made by coastal communities decorating the ship, carrying their spectacular and colourful messages.

Quayside open Friday 23rd September to Tuesday 27th September, from 6pm-7pm
