EVENT: Social Care Webinar on M.E./CFS and Long Covid, Thursday 17th March, 1:30pm

A partnership of M.E. charities are offering a webinar that will offer information to social care or social work staff on how to support people with M.E./CFS or Long Covid.

 

Hosted by Dr Nina Muirhead, a Specialty Doctor in Dermatology Surgery with personal experience of M.E./CFS, the webinar will increase understanding of this debilitating illness by discussing essential facts about M.E., dispelling myths and offering practical tips. This webinar is open to anyone working in any kind of social care or social work service in the UK.

Expected learning outcomes

  • To be aware of the characteristic symptoms of M.E./CFS and understand how this affects daily life.
  • To be able to identify and apply practical measures that will enhance planning and delivering care services and support.
  • To have an overview of potential adjustments needed in service delivery to avoidexacerbation of symptoms and sensitivities.
  • To be aware of the need for person-centred care and planning.
  • To understand the fluctuating nature of the illness and the impact of post-exertional malaise (PEM.)
  • To be able to signpost to self-management resources and support.

About the speaker: Dr Nina Muirhead, an NHS Dermatologist, became unwell with ME in 2016 and she has worked in partnership to create a CPD module in M.E./CFS for GPs and allied health professionals. This is complemented by a series of podcasts. She will be joined by a social care professional and someone with lived experience.
