EVENT: International Women’s Day 2022 Watch Party ‘Inez: A Challenging Woman’, Tuesday 8th March, 6pm-8pm

Making Rights Real are delighted to invite you to an International Women’s Day celebration, a watch party of the documentary film ‘Inez: A Challenging Woman’, and the launch of our new human rights drama project, SEVEN.

‘Inez: A Challenging Woman’ explores the life and legacy of one of Northern Ireland’s leading human rights activists, Inez McCormack.

In this award-winning documentary, directed by Eimhear O’Neill and Trevor Birney, Inez and those who knew her talk of her life-long work to bring peace and dignity to Northern Ireland’s most marginalised communities as a civil rights activist, trade union organiser and fierce advocate for women’s rights.

This 36-minute film follows her life from her political awakening during the 1968 civil rights movement in Northern Ireland, her early work in Belfast with low paid and marginalised women workers, her rise to becoming a trade union leader and her role in what became the Good Friday Agreement.

After the film showing, Inez’s daughter Anne McCormack will introduce Making Rights Real’s new human rights drama project, the staging of the play SEVEN. The play features the stories of seven women from across the world who have fought for human rights. Inez McCormack’s story is one of the seven within the play – her part was played by Meryl Streep in a New York performance in 2008.

We invite you to get together in person with friends and colleagues and watch this together (Covid rules permitting). Bring along your popcorn and favourite snacks and join us for this inspiring event.
