Moray Libraries, as part of a Scotland-wide initiative, will be promoting a special reading for well-being initiative being launched in March to culminate in a Reading moment in May.

Dr David Lewis, University of Sussex, has published research showing that reading for just 6 minutes a day can improve mental health by 68%

2022 is the Year of Scotland’s Stories and libraries want to be at the heart of this – what better way than having a national reading moment.

From an awareness that people have missed their libraries during the pandemic and looking to reconnect communities with libraries and the nation with its favourite pastime, reading, the reading moment came about.

Building on the Keep the Heid and Read initiative by North Ayrshire Libraries, Scottish Libraries and Information Council (SLIC) has teamed up with the health community for the 2022 Reading Moment – it will be called Keep the Heid and Read!

The ask is that everyone and anyone pledges to read for just 6 minutes on 11th May 2022. The Reading Moment will have its launch on World Book Day – 3rd March 2022.

Visit your local Moray Library for more information.
