MWH Admin TeamNews

At this month’s Making Recovery Real Partnership meeting we welcomed new member, Karen Higginbottom from REAP, who is involved in the exciting Maryhill Therapeutic Garden Project.

Maryhill Therapeutic Garden Project, based behind the Maryhill Medical Practice in Elgin, is a three-year project funded by The National Lottery and run by REAP Scotland. REAP run two weekly gardening groups where participants get the chance to garden and socialise outdoors in a peaceful and supportive environment.

Therapeutic gardening is the use of garden space to improve and build resilience in mental health; to increase physical activity; develop social skills and encourage a healthier diet. Our aim is to help people improve their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.

Gardening times are currently Tuesday afternoons 2-5pm and Friday mornings 10am to 12.30pm. From March, we change our Friday mornings to Thursday mornings.

The project is suitable for people with anxiety or depression, mild physical disabilities, or individuals experiencing isolation or bereavement.

If you feel the Maryhill Therapeutic Garden can support your client, then contact Karen Higginbottom via email  or ring 07840 908697 to request a referral form, seeking your client’s permission beforehand.
