EVENT: Findhorn Bay Arts Summer Programme Source To Sea

Celebrate Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters 20/21, with a programme of events set in the rural and coastal towns and villages on the Moray Firth coastline.

Coastal Walks

Try some bushcraft activities and taste and experience the natural environment. See the landscape through an artist’s lens, and notice the texture, pattern, tone, and form found in nature such as the artistry of rocks, the spiral of a shell, and the flowing patterns found in the sand. Be guided to see the familiar anew to bring a deep sensory awareness to the sounds, sights, and smells around you.

Various locations during July and August – click here for more details.

Coleman and Hodges : Northern Exposures

Over winter, Moray residents installed pinhole cameras in their houses and gardens, each of which took a single long exposure image over four months. These beautiful images capture both the landscape and the sun’s journey across the sky as the Earth turns, a reminder that everything we see, however still or monumental, is in motion, both through space and through time.

The ‘solargraph’ images act as a communal capturing of time and place and the accompanying audio of participants’ thoughts and feelings during that time form a powerful collective memory.

Friday 6th – Sunday 8th August 2021, James Milne Institute, Findhorn, 12noon-6pm, Free

The oceans are rising, and so is STORM. From the makers of Big Man Walking comes a folklore giant made real. STORM lives in the waters around Scotland. In Moray, she will walk on land to tell the story of the oceans in crisis. Giant puppet, STORM at 10m tall, has eyes the colour of oyster shells, her hair thick strands of kelp and her voice the chorus of the waves. She will walk into Burghead and gaze down upon both the beauty and the mess strewn at her feet. A new feat of mechanical mastery from Edinburgh’s Vision Mechanics.

Saturday 11th September 2021, 12noon; 2pm or 4pm, Burghead

Registering is essential to ensure Covid-19 compliance – more details here.

This is just a selection of the available events. For the full programme visit Findhorn Bay Arts.
