RESOURCE: Soundscapes for wellbeing and expressing neurodiverse experinces though sound

HeidiNews

Use of sound is increasingly recognised as a way to communicate diversity and support people with their wellbeing.

A great place to understand the opportunities around this is to listen to the RadMac show on BBC Radio 6 music from Saturday 30th of January as they chat to composer Nainita Desai. This includes a discussion on her work about creating the soundtrack for the film, The Reason I Jump – Based on the bestselling book by Naoki Higashida, it is an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of nonspeaking autistic people from around the world.

She also talks about the work that contributes to the ‘Soundscapes for Wellbeing’. This BBC online resource recognises spending time in nature can improve mood and wellbeing, but not everyone has easy access to the natural world.

On this BBC site, you can access a great selection of options to support wellbeing. Their collaboration brings virtual soundscapes of music and nature directly to audiences with Radio 3, 6 Music, BBC Sounds, BBC Two’s Winterwatch, the interactive BBC Sound Effects Archive and an innovative scientific experiment.
