NEWS: Spotlight on Forres Men’s Shed

MWH Admin TeamNews

The Forres Men’s Shed has been going for over 6 years and has just moved from Moray Waste Busters, Waterford Road Forres to their new building in Mundole, called Greenbank. With COVID restrictions being eased it’s a good opportunity to put the spotlight on Forres Men’s Shed and the fabulous work they have been doing and will be doing once restrictions are lifted.

The Forres Men’s Shed aimes to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well being of men of all ages over the age 18+ and backgrounds living in the Forres Academy catchment area.

The group is always looking for extra people to join in on their activities and have a laugh together. Or if you want to support the Forres Men’s Shed in another way, donations of the following are very welcome:

  • Gardening tools
  • Furniture and fittings
  • Wood and other raw materials

Whilst working with these materials and creating wonderful items in a sociable and informal setting, there is also the time and peer support to discuss members wellbeing as a lot of people are suffering from anxiety and depression. The connections that are made helps reduce isolation and loneliness.

It’s about men supporting men

As chairman Tony Hartley explains: “It’s the camaraderie, it’s the banter, it’s that joviality that you get between workmates. When you retire, that goes, and most men only have their wives to speak to, and a lot of men don’t even have that.”
