Reflection: World Kindness Day 13th November 2019

MWH Admin TeamEvent, Reflection

On 13th November 2019, it was World Kindness Day. As part of our Wellbeing Connected Moray project sponsored by Moray Leader, Moray Wellbeing Hub CIC champions and volunteers set about spreading a little kindness across Moray.

After a few hours preparation by the team to create acts of kindness slips to put into the buckets, jotting them down and cutting them up, we had some of our Champions hit the streets to give out the “acts of kindness” to members of the public. It was great to see so many smiling faces and just goes to show you what a simple act of kindness can mean to someone else.  We shared ideas on what acts of kindness people could bestow on others such as “cook dinner for someone” and “invite someone out for a walk for a bit of breathing space”.

Our champions visited many locations across Moray including Dufftown, Craigellechie, Rothes, Buckie, Cullen, Keith and Elgin. Over 50 people in Moray engaged with our Champions during the course of the day.

Champion, Bruce commented “Everyone had a different slant on the activity, some reading the RAK then engaging with group discussion. Some reading loud their random act of kindness with a definite statement of who they would be passing it to. Such a simple but powerful activity helped to connect many people in lots of different ways and there was a lot of laughter along the way.”

The highlight of the day for MWH was introducing a new Community Connector.

Our Community Connectors are an important addition to MWH, they help us to provide peer mentoring in the local community. Connectors meet with a Requestor, a person who may be feeling less empowered to link up for chat and/or shared experiences.

Online we launched a Social Media campaign on Facebook and Twitter to help spread the joy. We shared ideas on how others could get involved with World Kindness Day, some inspirational quotes based around kindness and shared the photographs of our Champions out and about in Moray spreading kindness and joy.

The team of Champions did an amazing job and there were some very happy and grateful members of the public that enjoyed taking part.
