Report: Housing is a human right: Shelter Scotland January 2019.

Jim McCullochReport

Good quality housing – a place to call home – is crucial to all aspects of our wellbeing, from health to education and to overall happiness. Despite this there are thousands of families in temporary accommodation, many homeless children, as well as those sleeping rough or on the streets. For all these people, a good home is out of reach.

This report provides an overview of housing as a human right in Scotland. It explores how important housing is to wellbeing, and therefore why it is a human right, as well as how human rights can be enforced. Further chapters consider the place of housing in human rights, and highlight how far the right to adequate housing is achieved in Scotland and where the barriers are to improvement.

The full report makes stark and fascinating reading and can be found here.
