First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced while on a visit to a hospital in Livingston that more than £50m is to be spent on improving access to mental health services for expectant and new mothers, thus providing access to treatment for an additional 11,000 patients.

She said: “Our priority is to drive up standards of perinatal mental healthcare for new mothers and their children right across Scotland. Mental illness during pregnancy and during the first year afterbirth is common, affecting up to one in five women.”

This good news story was followed by much amusement as a baby she was cradling, vomited over her. “Many people would like to do that, darlin'” she joked. The full article, minus the vomiting, can be read here.
