News: Support people living with IBD as a helpline volunteer

MWH Admin TeamNews

Crohn’s and Colitis UK has three great volunteer opportunities for their helpline services, which rely on volunteers working from home.

Crohn’s and Colitis UK is the UK’s leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

It is estimated that there are 300,000 people living with these conditions. Crohn’s and Colitis UK aim to work with those affected to achieve a better quality of life, improve services, and ulitimately find a cure.

Their vision is improved lives today, and a world free from Crohn’s and Colitis tomorrow.

In addition to the Information Service which is happy to help with any questions that callers may have about the conditions, there are three helpline services that rely on volunteers working from home.

The services are:

Crohn’s and Colitis Support: This is a listening service for anyone who needs a safe place to talk about living with IBD. It’s provided by volunteers, all who have a personal experience of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), who are trained to provide emotional support and a listening ear.

Disability Benefit Service: This service has trained volunteers who can help with the benefits Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children over the telephone. They are able to help clients think about whether they might be eligible, offer support with completing an application form and asking for a mandatory reconsideration. Volunteers have a working knowledge of Disability Benefits.

Parent to Parent: This helpline enables parents of children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), up to and including age 25, to talk on the phone in confidence to a parent volunteer.

At present the charity is looking to recruit volunteers for all three services. For more information on the volunteer roles, please follow the appropriate link below:
