Reflection: Pop Goes the Golf Ball, Moray Feelgood Festival event, 21st October 2017

Pop Goes the Golf Ball, in partnership with Living Golf, was one of our most successful events over the Moray Feelgood Festival 2017. Many thanks to all that attended, volunteered and to Franz and Amanda from Living Golf for being such excellent hosts.

I signed up to attend this event with my husband John and I was looking forward to Saturday, although I thought I was going to a “Golf Range” where I was going to hit “Ping-pong balls”, not a golf course with 9 holes!

The first challenge before playing golf was to deliver and help set up a large tent as an information stall for the Moray Wellbeing Hub. The thought of having to get up at 6.45am to get organised to be at Covesea Golf Course on the Lossiemouth Road for 8.00am, and then to be ready by 9.30am for the welcome of players and friends, was rather daunting on a Saturday morning. However, having a husband who is draughtsman, and knows how to put things together, I delegated John to assemble the gazebo, along with Kenny a champion from the hub and Heinrich a friend of Franz. John was grateful for the help and I was happy that they all knew what they were doing with all the pieces, which I thought were not all there.   However, the gazebo went up, it had the roof on, with tables inside for people to eat lunch at or just chat in general. We didn’t even the side or door as the weather forecast stated it was to be a lovely day – just as well as gales had been expected.   Aside from the tent there was music from a young man by the name of Callum and his band all day, plus lunch could be bought at the vendor.

Franz opened the competition at 10am, with a cheery welcome to everyone there, introducing various people.  The Mayor spoke, and Kenny gave the speech about the Feelgood Festival. The first tee off – was delivered by the Mayor and Councillor Lorna Creswell. There were 6 teams, some had 3 people others had four to start off with, however, we were a team of 3 – John Kenny and myself though in the end we ended up as a team off 4 when MSP, Richard Lochhead, joined us with 3 holes to go – this improved our score and outcome at the end of the game!

There were prizes at the end and the team that won were three lads from the Army.  Everyone else was given a golf ball with a “Star Wars” character on.  Various people spoke thanking Franz for a wonderful day. The day was successful, fun and enjoyable and as far as I know from what people were saying, everyone had a fun time. Franz is now speaking about Christmas and having a tournament then, dressed up in Santa Claus outfits or whatever anyone likes. Sounds like lots of fun.
