Event: 21st Feb, Focus group on Therapeutic Gardening – all welcome, register now

AdminUncategorized

The Moray Wellbeing Hub has teamed up with fellow community organisation REAP to gather your views on therapeutic gardening in Moray as part of research they are conducting, funded by the Integrated Care Fund Small Grants.

Event will be held at the Inkwell, Elgin, 11.45-1.15pm on the 21st of February, and will include lunch. Registration is required for refreshments.

Information on the REAP research project:

We are aware of some good practice in Moray and would like to find out:

  • The breadth of activity in therapeutic gardening going on locally
  • How organisations see therapeutic gardening working for them and those they support
  • Which organisations are interested in offering it to their service users or group members in future

Therapeutic or adaptive gardening comes in all shapes and sizes and can be defined as a cost-effective way of improving physical and mental health for a wide range of people with varying needs through growing and gardening activity. It may be carried out to support vulnerable groups, hospital patients, those with physical or sensory impairments, people with mental health issues, asylum seekers and refugees, those with drug or alcohol dependencies. It can increase growing skills and life-skills as well as self-confidence, independence and fitness.

Information gathered will be presented in a report which can be used as evidence for future funding bids and project inspiration.

We are doing a desktop research literature review including lots of info from trellis, setting out the framework in Moray (documents and initiatives), looking at god practice and giving a short summary of projects already in Moray, then presenting the survey results and looking at possible future funding and projects.

So we are hoping for a good response to see what people would like to see, where this might happen and how people might want to get involved.

If you are unable to attend, but keen to give your views, please contact REAP directly.
