Reflection: Moray Health and Social Care Partnership “Reshaping Care for Older People”, 21st September 2017

Heidi Reflection

The afternoon started with an address by Pam Gowans, Chief Officer of The Integration Joint Board, who explained that we were going to be looking at various models of care and we were to examine our local provision and look at new solutions. I found myself the lone male in a circle of 15 women, 14 of whom knew each other from being NHS /council colleagues, so very quickly the discussion got very technical and the air was thick with a rare selection of TLA’s (Three Letter Acronyms) to which I could contribute very little. I finally could contribute when the …

Reflection: Feeding the Soul, Conference and VOX AGM. 11th September, 2017

Heidi Reflection

Ailene, Matt and I volunteered to attend the VOX Feeding the Soul conference in Glasgow. An estimated 70 people gathered at 200 St Vincent Street Glasgow for this event. Unfortunately, due to train times, we missed the introduction but arrived in time to listen to Stephen Wiseman, from Scottish Waterways Trust in Inverness, give an inspirational talk on building mental health through nature connection. There were talks on Homeopathy, music in hospitals and counselling, with a live musical performance to show the beneficial effects of music to lift the soul. Everyone seemed very enthusiastic about the holistic approach to mental …

Reflection: ULab Moray Hub and Coaching Circle, 29th September 2017

Heidi Reflection, ULab

Three of us from the newly emerging U.Lab Hub met at Dunbarney House in Elgin on Friday evening to try out the U.Lab Coaching Circle process.  We then went on to have a wider deep conversation about several topics. These are our notes and reflections. The coaching circle tool: “What struck me in the feedback was your (the coaches) ability to tap into things that you could not have known about me.  That is the bottom of the U – a wisdom that we cannot begin to fathom.” We reflected that this process created space as well as a unique …

Reflection: ULab Programme Launch, 22nd September 2017

Heidi Reflection, ULab

Curiosity – Compassion – Courage On Thursday 21st September, more than 12,000 people worldwide joined the launch of the U-Lab 2017 programme broadcast live by Dr Otto Scharmer and his team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).   A small group of us caught up with the recording of that live stream on Friday evening at Dunbarney House, in Elgin. Find out about ULab in Scotland here. While we didn’t have the buzz of being part of a live and global broadcast, we caught the spirit of what was being discussed, and being a day later, were able to pause the …

Reflection: See Me Health and Social Care Leaders Seminar, Edinburgh. 31st August 2017

Heidi Reflection

I was delighted to be invited to travel to this event as a representative and Champion of the Moray Wellbeing Hub, in our role as community connectors toward improving health and social care in Moray, and challenging the stigma that prevents wellbeing for so many people. I was joined by Kirsteen Pyett from the Social Work Mental Health Team in Moray, someone who I’ve worked with closely in the past through the Making Recovery Real in Moray initiative and is equally passionate about the subject. Those attending came from a good geographic spread and many were heads of services or …

News: Reflective practice results in Adult Achievement Awards for Champions

Heidi News, Reflection

“I found it an excellent course.  It was interesting and factual.  It turned out to be therapeutic for me as I finally admitted who I am and I am glad this course made me reflect.  This reflection process enabled me to become clear about what I want to do in the future and continue to work on my personal growth and development.” This is just one of the positive comments learners have shared with Barbara, one of our Champions, about being involved with the course she supports which gives people the opportunity to work toward a qualification based on reflection …

Reflection: Peer Trainer Development day 26th July 2017

Heidi Reflection

Earlier this year, as part of our Moray Wellness College, we trained a number of past attendees of WRAP and Living Life to the Full as peer trainers. These individuals are now growing as a team, working together to explore how the college could grow, what courses we should run and how to ensure that there is a high standard of quality. As part of the participatory budgeting funding we were awarded earlier this year that focused on supporting the supporters, we can run development days and training for our trainers to help connect them and increase their confidence and …

Reflection: HUG Action for Mental Health visit, 27th July 2017

Heidi Highlights, Reflection

On Thursday, 27th July 2017, three Champions travelled to Inverness and we were warmly welcomed by the HUG Inverness team. We hoped to share a bit about what we do and learn in turn about what they are doing and how we might work together in the future. HUG Action For Mental Health are a collective advocacy group that are supported by the Highland council and other funders, to help the voice of people with experience of mental ill-health be heard both locally and nationally. They produce powerful reports as well as attend meetings with service providers. Weekly they host …

Reflection: SafeTALK training, suicidal experinces and peer-led support

Heidi Highlights, Reflection

Aiming to coordinate a ‘Wellness College’ for Moray (where all courses for improving wellbeing can be found in one place), the hub has been working with Moray Council training department to promote their suicide awareness courses on SafeTALK in June 2017. Additionally our  Champions have been attending these courses to learn ways that we can support those attending with any further support as peers. As a result of their reflections on what they needed themselves in terms of post-course support, we are trialling a “debreif and support” peer-led meeting after the next course. Here folk can chat about their …
