Reflection: Schools sessions Buckie High and Drumduan School Forres, October 2017

Heidi Reflection

At the Moray Wellbeing Hub, we are very keen to work with people of all ages to support exploring mental health. Increasingly we are asked by schools to support their curriculum by coming in to add to their class schedules as visiting facilitators. This is something we are keen to do, both from the perspective of challenging stigma and in increasing skills and awareness of what they can do as individuals around mental health. Currently, we are not funded for schools focused work in particular, but whenever possible we do our best to work with any interested partners and see …

We were shortlisted in the category of Integration Partnership of the Year, along with Nari Kallyan Shangho in partnership with NHS Lothian (the winner in our category) and Gleniffer Outreach with Renfrew Rehabilitation service. As a group of the four Directors at the hub, we made the best use of the trip and took in visits to a couple …

With thanks to Champion Ailene for another excellent reflection and for accompanying her colleague Rita to Perth to accept this award – Lead Scotland is an organisation that specialises in linking education and disability. Last year we partnered with Lead to support a group of our Champions through the Adult Achievement Awards and this ceremony looks at all their learners over the last year. This is only the second year that this James Hill Learner of the Year Award has been presented, it came into being after James Hill, passed away, and as a former champion who supported many learners …

Reflection: Pop Goes the Golf Ball, Moray Feelgood Festival event, 21st October 2017

Heidi Reflection, Uncategorized

Pop Goes the Golf Ball, in partnership with Living Golf, was one of our most successful events over the Moray Feelgood Festival 2017. Many thanks to all that attended, volunteered and to Franz and Amanda from Living Golf for being such excellent hosts. I signed up to attend this event with my husband John and I was looking forward to Saturday, although I thought I was going to a “Golf Range” where I was going to hit “Ping-pong balls”, not a golf course with 9 holes! The first challenge before playing golf was to deliver and help set up a …

Reflections: Moray U.Lab Blog, 26th October 2017

Heidi Reflection, ULab

In recent weeks, on a Friday evening at Dunbarney House, we have been playing with the U.Lab tools  and joining in the U.Lab programme.  It’s been a delight to see members of the Moray Wellbeing Hub and the wider community drop in and join in when it works for them. Coaching Circles In particular, we have been relishing the weekly coaching circle.  In the coaching circle we are learning a lot about ‘not fixing it’, and that simply by deeply listening to someone and reflecting back our insights, images and all sorts of stuff that come up, while  they have …

Reflection: Moray Health and Social Care Partnership “Reshaping Care for Older People”, 21st September 2017

Heidi Reflection

The afternoon started with an address by Pam Gowans, Chief Officer of The Integration Joint Board, who explained that we were going to be looking at various models of care and we were to examine our local provision and look at new solutions. I found myself the lone male in a circle of 15 women, 14 of whom knew each other from being NHS /council colleagues, so very quickly the discussion got very technical and the air was thick with a rare selection of TLA’s (Three Letter Acronyms) to which I could contribute very little. I finally could contribute when the …

Reflection: Feeding the Soul, Conference and VOX AGM. 11th September, 2017

Heidi Reflection

Ailene, Matt and I volunteered to attend the VOX Feeding the Soul conference in Glasgow. An estimated 70 people gathered at 200 St Vincent Street Glasgow for this event. Unfortunately, due to train times, we missed the introduction but arrived in time to listen to Stephen Wiseman, from Scottish Waterways Trust in Inverness, give an inspirational talk on building mental health through nature connection. There were talks on Homeopathy, music in hospitals and counselling, with a live musical performance to show the beneficial effects of music to lift the soul. Everyone seemed very enthusiastic about the holistic approach to mental …

Reflection: ULab Moray Hub and Coaching Circle, 29th September 2017

Heidi Reflection, ULab

Three of us from the newly emerging U.Lab Hub met at Dunbarney House in Elgin on Friday evening to try out the U.Lab Coaching Circle process.  We then went on to have a wider deep conversation about several topics. These are our notes and reflections. The coaching circle tool: “What struck me in the feedback was your (the coaches) ability to tap into things that you could not have known about me.  That is the bottom of the U – a wisdom that we cannot begin to fathom.” We reflected that this process created space as well as a unique …
